Every now and again, I run across some news that’s just plain fun, the kind of stuff that inspires me as a regular dude turned science fiction writer. Here’s the tidbits I ran across over the last couple days:
The Cassini orbiter has snapped pictures of rivers on Titan. Methane/ethane rivers man! The picture (posted above) “shows a branching river valley, running more than 200 miles (320 kilometers) from its headwaters to Titan’s Kraken Mare, a hydrocarbon sea that’s somewhere between the Caspian Sea and the Mediterranean in size.” The name Kraken Mare is evocative alone… I know it gets my wheels turning. Check out the rest of the article.
Then I found out a petition to the White House to build a Death Star got over 25,000 signatures. According to the article, “The rationale for securing the funding and resources to start construction was laid out in the petition, created on Nov. 14 by John D. of Longmont, Colo: “By focusing our defense resources into a space-superiority platform and weapon system such as a Death Star, the government can spur job creation in the fields of construction, engineering, space exploration, and more, and strengthen our national defense.” The over 25k signatures on this petition means the White House has to respond to it officially. Of course, no one expects the White House to appr0ve a Death Star, but just what if? I mean, Roosevelt spurred the economy forward with the New Deal… Barack Obama said there’s nothing wrong with hope… so what if Obama says yes to the Death Star in a plan called A New Hope?
And in closer news, the UFO anthology is almost here! Just in time for Christmas. Don’t forget to order your copy and check out some of the free content available at http://www.ufopub.com/
